The Samuel Wilbur House is a stately home of outstanding beauty and balance. With huge original barns, bluestone patios, it is a 3000 sq. ft. beautifully restored, 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath, exquisitely decorated home.
One of the few brick Georgians in Columbia County, the Samuel Wilbur House is a stately reminder of the past. Wilbur, a New York State Senator during the Colonial era, created a home of outstanding beauty and balance. The property features huge original barns and bluestone patios and a nearby pond and stream give the outdoor space an instant country feel. All of the finishes are of the highest quality, with many of the original details intact. The floors have over a century of patina, the moldings are hand crafted, the fireplace mantels are works of art, exposed beams and bricks lend interest to the ceilings and walls.
Updated where it's needed, particularly in the main kitchen where modern aesthetics give clean thought to this antique beauty. Wonderful new windows bring in the light and amazing old windows (the Palladian in particular) divide and cast the sun in exciting ways.
All of the baths have been reclaimed, modern tile and glass breathe new life into old spaces. A home that offers the best of old and new in a space big enough to accommodate up to 8 guests.
Sprawling deck with a BBQ, grounds, nearby stream, fully-equipped gourmet chef kitchens, living room, fireplaces, dining room, library, 4 bedrooms, 3,5 bathrooms, fresh linens and towels, WIFI, Cable TV.
Although we are not always on site, we are just a text or phone call away if you should have any questions or needs during your stay.
Please note that there is an extra fee of $100 per extra guest.
A care taker resides in an independent (not connected) unit on the estate grounds.

Summary: Our family spent a few days celebrating Christmas at this lovely home. The house is very spacious with 4 bedrooms and 3 full (beautifully updated) baths upstairs and a large living room for gathering. It was nicely decorated for the holidays and very comfortable. The kitchen is stunning and we can imagine how great it would be in the warmer months to fully experience the terrace and outdoor grounds! The owners are lovely and were very responsive during our stay.

Summary: A stay at the Samuel Wilbur Estate will not disappoint! Ann and Francois were such gracious and attentive hosts. The home is beautiful, well-appointed and comfortable with every kitchen amenity imaginable. And the heated pool... We will definitely stay here again.

Summary: We stayed in the main house of the Samuel Wilbur Estate for 4 weeks and it quickly became our home away from home! First off: Ann and Francois are amazing hosts. They are helpful, responsive, friendly, and accommodating. Though totally respectful of our privacy, they were also always available as needed. The home is full of character and charm (just like Ann and Francois!) and super comfortable. As a professional cook, the kitchen was a dreamy space to cook and hang out in. The beds were comfortable and the living room a great space for hanging out. The ground level floor stays remarkable cool without A/C (and we were there in Aug!) and all but one of the bedrooms has window A/C. One of my kids chose to sleep in the room without the A/C and was fine! I must admit that we did not catch in the listing that there are several other units on the same property. It was a bit of a surprise at first, but the bigger surprise was that it worked out absolutely perfectly! The main home feels super private (NO sound travel) and looks out on an expanse of the yard that felt all our own, with a private patio and grill. In the end, we'd pass other friendly faces now and then — it was like having the best parts of a bed and breakfast without having to deal with any of the off-putting ones. The house isn't set back on acres of land; if you're looking for super privacy and absolute quiet in nature, this probably isn't your spot, but we loved being at the country crossroads of charming Old Chatham. The Old Chatham Country Store across the quiet street has fantastic breakfast sandwiches! Ann and Francois were working hard on making the property even more beautiful while we were there. We can't wait to visit again when the pool is finished!

Summary: The house was beautiful and beautifully decorated. The host was helpful and went above and beyond to make our stay great. There's a nice-sized yard where our kids could play and run around. The location is super-convenient: just a few steps from "downtown" with the Old Chatham Country Store and Jackson's restaurant. There are 3-4 other apartments/units on the property where other guests stay.
